Freezing of Gait (FOG) is one of the most disabling symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, drastically affecting mobility, independence, and quality of life. While the Freeze Index (FI) has emerged as a promising biomarker to quantify and monitor FOG episodes, the field has long struggled with one critical issue: lack of standardization.
Despite growing interest from clinicians, researchers, and companies alike, existing studies use inconsistent, and often mathematically imprecise, methods to calculate FI. This has made it nearly impossible to compare results across studies, stalling progress and limiting acceptance by regulatory bodies for clinical or digital health applications.
That’s why we’re proud to present our latest peer-reviewed publication in Frontiers in Neurology:
📄 Toward a Unified Gait Freeze Index: A Standardized Benchmark for Clinical and Regulatory Evaluations
This work lays the foundation for:
🔹 A mathematically rigorous, reproducible standard for computing FI
🔹 Open-source code to ensure transparency and collaboration
🔹 Enabling real-world, regulatory-grade monitoring of FOG with wearable technology
We’re proud to pioneer this effort and support the broader neurotech community in advancing digital biomarkers for Parkinson’s and beyond.
